Cornbread is a type of bread made primarily with cornmeal and sometimes wheat flour, baking powder, salt, eggs, milk, and oil or butter. It is a staple in Southern and Southwestern cuisine in the United States and is often served as a side dish with barbecue, chili, beans, greens, and other hearty dishes. Cornbread can be baked like a cake in a pan, as muffins, or in a cast-iron skillet, and can be customized with added ingredients like diced jalapenos, cheese, or herbs..
