Caramelized Onions

Caramelized onions are onions that have been cooked slowly over low heat for a long time. This breaks down their natural sugars resulting in a light brown color, and a sweet and rich flavor.

This process is also known as “reducing” or “cooking down” the onions. This recipe complements the caramelization process by adding brown sugar to the onions. The onions can be used on beef, vegetables or other food to add extra flavor.
