The Best Sopapillas


3 cups bread flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. oil

1 cup warm water

cooking oil or shortening


Combine ingredients, adding water until a dough ball forms. Knead dough for 4-5 minutes. Let dough stand for 15 minutes. Roll out dough to about 1/8 inch thickness on floured surface. Fry in hot oil (at least 1/2 inch deep)- take the necessary safety precautions when frying with hot oil- do not allow oil to smoke. Oil must be hot enough for sopapillas to puff up when put in oil. Fry until lightly golden brown on both sides. Place on absorbent towel paper on plate when done frying each sopapillas. Serve with butter and honey.
